FAQ

Those who are looking for an answer to the question «Who invented the dive mask?» often ask the following questions:

🌊 Who invented diving mask?

  • A full face diving mask was invented by Yves le Prieur in 1933. The free-flow type of full-face mask is also sometimes referred to as a Jack Browne rig, named for a DESCO engineer who designed an early version of a full-face mask with a surface-supplied free-flow air supply.

🌊 How tight should dive mask?

You should get an airtight fit with very light strap pressure. The strap should sit high on the back of your head, not resting on your ears. If it rests on your ears it will get painful. If you have to pull the straps tight to get a fit, or if you have big red marks when it comes off, you have it too tight.

🌊 Can i dive after mask squeeze?

Mask Squeeze Treatment

If a person experiences a mask squeeze, that person should discontinue diving until healed. Mask squeeze can be prevented by equalizing the pressure in the mask as the diver descends on their dive.

Not sure that there is a single definite "inventor". Dive masks of some description have been used since ancient times using polished tortoise shells over the eyes (ie. without enclosing the nose). When scuba diving became popular in the 1950s, most people simply made their own masks using a lense and either vulcanised rubber or neoprene. Modern masks only really started to develop when manufacturers stepped forward to make masks with finger pockets to pinch the nose to equalise.I am not aware that anyone has ever held a patent in any country for "inventing" the dive mask.

How deep can you dive with full face snorkel mask?

With a snorkel mask you can dive to a maximum depth of 1 to 2 meters. The reasons for this are that the mask already presses strongly against the face at shallow water depths due to the trapped air. In addition, snorkel mask wearers cannot equalize the pressure (e.g. by holding the nose shut while breathing out).

Who invented the dive helmets for the movie the abyss?

I Remember watching the making of the Abyss on a special Dvd, and I believe they showed how Kirby Morgan, (The Company that Revolutionized Commercial Diving Helmets) Created working helmets for the divers in the movie. Real Commercial Diving helmets have a large viewport for the diver to see out of, but you cannot see inside because of the way it is designed, so they modified it to have a huge Lexan front for the movie and lights inside so the actors faces were visible for the movie, but still looked like a rugged work helmet. They also said that the helmets were fitted with an effortless regulator for breathing, instead of the demand regulators on real work helmets which are a little labouring when working hard... Hoped that helped! Check out Kirby Morgan Dive Helmets to see pic's of real Diving Hard hats
